So I'm going to talk about today is Rod Evans' Facebook marketing tutorial. I bought the Facebook marketing tutorial when version 1 came out (and it was and still is really ground breaking).. Now he's up to version V3 and the improvements are quite apparent.

To begin with when you start watching the video, the production quality is quite good. The approach of the video is to introduce Facebook to people who no prior knowledge Facebook, but quickly moved into advanced concepts and strategies which can be used by all photographers... Focusing both on free features of Facebook and then diving into highly targeted Facebook advertising. With the ultimate goal being to drive highly target people to your business..

The video is excellent in giving you a step by step procedure for setting up and implementing a professional presence on Facebook. You can start implementing the concepts right away (in fact I was making updates while watching the video)..

One thing which I will note is that the video is that it is based on the old Facebook profile. If you have updated to the new profile you'll find there are some subtle differences which you need to adapt to.

If you do decide to purchase - use the coupon code "enthusiast" and save $35...

Tamara Lackey DVD Review : Inside Contemporary Children's Photography

For a while now I have been looking at freshening up my photography style. One photographer who caught my eye was Tamara Lackey. After visiting her impressive site I notice she offered a DVD on her style of photography (and in a moment of black friday weakness - I ordered it last week).

Inside Contemporary Children's Photography by Tamara Lackey is a modern look at portrait and family photography. What you first notice about the DVD is the impressive production quality. I have more than a few videos which are nothing more than a VHS Camcorder set up in the back of a hotel conference room..

The video features Tamara Lackey as the photographer and Lisa Walter her studio director.

As I was watching that video and having Tamara talk about the concept of contemporary children's photography and contrast it against more traditional photography styles; I couldn't help but think about the old arguments in wedding photography where the photojournalists led by Denis Reggie started a revolution against the traditional wedding photographers like Monte Zucker.

However, Tamara gives a nod to the traditional photographers then offers her own view on what contemporary photography is. For somebody like myself I could easily see integrating some of these contemporary images into my photography repertoire.

Back to the video–the video is broken up into sections first giving an overview of portrait photography then going into some of the details involved with shooting children covering technical camera set up, seeing the beauty in children, and interacting with children. Next is a section going through digital workflow and finally a section on business given by her studio director Lisa.

I picked up a lot of great tips from the video - in fact in the next session I photographed I took to heart some of the ideas she presented in the video. In my standard traditional shooting session I incorporated this image:

Overall I really enjoyed the video and thought it was a worthwhile addition to my video collection. I'm definitely going to be trying some of the ideas and integrating that into my work. If you're a portrait photographer looking to freshen up your photography style - I'd highly recommend Tamara Lackey's video.

This article is very relevant since I just gave up a full time job to pursue freelance photography work. I was fortunate to be working in publishing. As an editor and Graphic Artist at the Poughkeepsie Journal, I did make some good connections that I hope will help me out in the future. But we all have connections, and staying in touch is the key.

If you want to take your photography seriously, there's something you're going to need to have. Websites for photographers are a great way to bring in business as well as show off what you can do. A website is literally an essential today when it comes to being taken seriously as a photographer. Even if you just plan to work in person and not with online clients, you still need a website that people can visit to learn more about you.

When it comes to your own website, you want something professional that also reflects your personal style as a photographer. Someone should be able to visit your website and get a feel for what it would be like to meet you in person. They should also be able to easily navigate the site and find important details about you as well as contact info.

Learning high dynamic range photography is something that every photographer should at least be familiar with, no matter what type of photography you do or how you work with images. High dynamic range imaging (HDR) is used in image processing, computer graphics and also in photography.

This is a type of technique that allows for a greater dynamic range of luminance between the lightest and darkest areas of a photo or image. In standard digital imaging techniques or common photographic methods today, this is important to know and understand.
